Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta

Yes, you read that correctly. There is an event in Darwin, in July that is centered around creating a boat out of beer cans and or plastic bottles or milk cartons…as long as it floats. And yes, in Winter it is still hot enough to get in the water. Stunning Mindil beach comes alive on this iconic family fun day, first established in 1974. The Beer Can Regatta day includes sandcastle building competitions, running and kayak races, team events and thong throwing competitions. (so…very…Darwin!)
